Birds, birds, birds

The last weeks I ´ve been going through my photos from 2022 and I really got into bird photography.

The year started with the rare visit of an Ural Owl in a close by nature reserve. It was the first time I saw an owl in the wild and it’s been really fascinating.

With a new 100-400mm lens at hand I started photographing the birds in our backyard throughout spring and summer.

For the midsummer holidays we went to the coast at the Kullahalvön, just north of Helsingborg. Here we could observe a few different seabirds as well as a couple of pilfink feeding their chick.

In september I went to a small lake near Skövde to find som kingfisher that have been nesting and raising the chicks here. And I’ve been lucky! What an amazing bird – looks like a little flying jewel.

We even hade som bigger birds like Buntspecht and Nötkråka visiting our hazelnut trees in the garden.

At the beginning of winter we set up a feeding station in our backyard. The buffet is always busy and a great opportunity to get quite close to many small birds.

2023 started again with an owl. A northern hawk owl this time, which has been visiting Skövde for a few weeks.

Two weeks ago we went to Varberg at the Swedish west coast to photograph Swedens biggest bird of prey – the enormous White tailed sea eagle. At the nature reserve Getterön, these magnificent birds are feed during winter and we hade 10 eagles the most flying above us.

I’m continuing with feeding the small birds in our garden and last weekend I visited the beautiful kingfisher again.
